1st Haircut!

Anyone who has been reading my blog for a while knows that my hair has been an ongoing cause for concern. It's been... well... patchy at best. But recently I've noticed a new phenomenon. What was once sparse and lacking had become... frizzy and out of control (see left).

So we had a family meeting and together we decided that it was time that I get a haircut.

Hi, it's me - Julian's mom. I'm posting on Julian's blog today not so much for his fans but for myself. I'm not so good and writing down milestones and I already find myself thinking, "when did Julian start..." or "when he was xx months old, could he...?" so a few nights ago as I was putting him to bed he said to me "Mommy, help! I have milk in my nose. It's not supposed to be in my nose, it's supposed to be in my mouth." And I thought, "Huh, that's a pretty complex sentence - not a single word was missed or mispronounced. I should write that one down somewhere for posterity." and thus, here I am. He can also recognize almost all the letters of the alphabet and say their sounds (he's actually better at the sounds than the names) and he does this really cute thing where he tries to fake me out and if I show him a letter he says, "Hmm... I don't think I know that one..." and puts a finger to his lips and does some more "Hmm"ing and sometimes throws in a "let me think about it" and then pulls it out with gusto: "IT'S AN 'R'! The R says rrrrrrrrr!!"

Anyway, it's too cute and I want to remember it!

So this is what I can only assume is the toddler equivalent to a frat party where the first person to pass out gets tormented and has pictures taken of them wearing lipstick graffiti and a beer cup as a hat. It's no secret that I absolutely must sleep with my blue hippo (pictured here wedged behind my neck) what you may not know is that my mother still sleeps with a stuffed rabbit and my father sleeps with a green string that used to be a pillow or something? (ya, I totally didn't stand a chance). So I guess they thought it would be funny to decorate me with their own sleeping paraphernalia and take pictures of me while I slept. Weirdos. I sooo don't "get" adults.

Hi y'all. Its Julian's mom here. He's gonna have a new post for you soon as we have some uber-cute pics of him with his girlfriend, Allie, but in the meantime I'm going to sell him out while he's napping by telling a little story to embarass him. So, this morning we were sitting on the couch and watching Dora while I had my morning coffee and, naturally, Jules had no pants on (we're trying to potty train when we're at home so we generally hang out pant-less or the laundry becomes uncontrollable) I was concentrating on consuming my coffee as quickly as possible so we could get ourselves to playgroup on time and I guess Jules started playing around "down there" and suddenly proclaimed "Mummy! Mummy yook! [he struggles with the 'L' sound so everything's 'yook! yook at dis!'] Mummy yook! My peepee's big big big!" What does one say? I think I replied with, "Yes, it is! Peepees do that sometimes." He doesn't yet know the word for "testicles" but he then pointed to them and said, "Mummy yook! Dees are bumpy!" I guess maybe we need to turn up the thermostat? Oy. I suddenly flashed forward in time to "sex talks" and playground-inspired questions and I think I actually felt a grey hair sprout.

Hey everyone!

This post is dedicated to my Gomo ("Gomo" is Korean for "aunt") (...although, I have another Korean aunt who isn't a Gomo, she's a Kunuma... it's all very confusing and once I figure it out myself I'll hold a blog tutorial). Anyway, it's Gomo's birthday tomorrow but we went for dinner on Saturday night. Here's a pictures of Gomo and Sammy. It looks like Sammy's holding up a carrot but that's actually a crayon. She's all, "ya, that's my orange crayon, yo."

I know you're probably wondering how old my Gomo is but grown-ups are all weird about that stuff so I promised her I wouldn't tell and my lips are sealed.

(oh, ya, and mommy's friend Adrienne, if you're reading this, I heard about the kids on your skiing vacation and I just wanted to say that my mom brings quiet games and toys to restaurants and makes me sit in my chair and keep my voice low so that we don't disturb the other patrons. I hope this helps to restore your faith in us crib-midgets. Some of us reserve our annoying behaviour for our parents exclusively.)

Hey y'all.

My mom's been really bad about taking the camera with us when we go out. Oh yeah, she's also been... I don't know, like, working and looking for a job and a bunch of other *yawn* stuff but I wasn't really listening.

In any case, here's an update for you: mommy, daddy and I went and met my auntie Sandra, my cousin Samantha and Harmuny (that's Korean for "grandma", ya that's right - I'm all bilingual and stuff) for breakfast at McDonalds. We lived it up in the playground but there were some pretty intimidating big kids playing in there so we convinced mom to come with us for our first few trips through the climber (pictured above). She was kind of a downer, though, and kept complaining about the heat and the pee-stink inside the plastic tubes, plus she slowed us down, so we ditched her pretty quickly.

Oh, ya, and I know what you're thinking: who the hell's that kid on the left? Ya, we're not sure. I'm kind of getting used to the fans hanging around. I try to sign some autographs and let them inch their way into a few pictures - ya know, keep my public happy.

Anyway, I'll update again soon! I'm going to school tomorrow morning with Mommy so maybe we'll take some pictures there.

Without Allie around the corner these days I have to rely on mom to play with me so when I'm on the see-saw she gets on the other side but, let's face it, she's too heavy and instead of enjoying the fun she's all lame and tries to take pictures of me. Well, I kinda lied before when I said I'd update you guys in a day or two. I realize it's been more like a week or two but it's been pretty hectic trying to get settled in at Nana's house. Plus, mommy and daddy have been working at the cafe so there's a lot going on. But I'm here now!

Other than the aforementioned move everything's been pretty status quo - I've been playing, eating, running around, shoving things in DVD players and other A/V equipment, you know... the usual. In fact I don't really have much to blog about so I'll post a couple of pics from my playdate last weekend.

I hung out with my big cousin, Sammy. We went swimming and then went to the park near Sammy's house. She showed me around (as pictured above) and introduced me to a few key people. Then something very exciting happened: we came face-to-face with our first BULLY! YES people, that's what I said, a real, honest to goodness bully! It was something up until then that I'd only heard about in books. A girl tried to keep us off the monkey bars and kept shouting "NO" and held her foot out near my head like she was going to kick me (lucky for her she didn't try anything or I would have had to show her my super-south-korean death grip. Pray you never need to know more about it than what was just revealed). Our tactic was to just hang back and wait for her to move away and then we went climbing anyway... ha ha, sucker. Our moms were pretty proud of us and didn't have to step in once.

In actual fact this was caused by nothing nearly as cool as that but simply what we'll from here-on-in refer to as the bouncy castle "incident" of 2007 involving some particularly rough carpeting and a husky young girl named Ruth (it's a biblical name, yes, but let me tell you there was nothing Christian about this pint-sized hussy). I may never now strut the runways of Milan... *sigh*... Well, I'd better go learn to read or something. Looks like I'm going to have to rely on my brains afterall.

A WORD OF ADVICE

Calling all web-surfers that are 3-apples-high (like me). Something to try: when mom gives you a snack in a bowl (fish crackers work well for this), try taking it over to the couch and dumping it all over the place and stomping the bits into the rug a little. It's fun because then you get to watch your mom take apart all the furniture and carry stuff outside to shake it into the backyard and once you've swept everything up and thrown it outside, squirrels come right up to the door to eat your leftover snack bits! It's like African Lion Safari... Ya, that's what a said - African Lion Safari... Hey, listen, some of those squirrels can get pretty aggressive, alright?

Anyway, the other cool thing is that while mom's distracted & cleaning everything up it'll give you a chance to throw her cell phone into the toilet.

Well, some pretty exciting things have happened recently. Not least of all, I've become a champion race-car driver, as you can see here. I don't know who that old guy is, but he seems to think I'm all-that-and-a-bag-of-chips so he can stay.

I do have a secret to confide, however. It's true that photoshop can make things seem a little more "Hollywood" than they really are. So I've included a few photos of me in my new race car that mommy took so you can get the true picture.

Here I am at the beach the other day and then the picture on the left was taken on the same swing but last September. As you can see, my legs have grown quite long and shapely since then.

Yesterday we didn't have to work (for once) and it was SOOOO hot outside that mommy and I went over to my friend Natalie's house to swim in her pool. GEEZ, FINALLY!

Well, I've FINALLY (after a month of harassment) got mommy to come on and update everyone. Sadly, mommy & daddy's camera broke which means no cute pictures of little ol' me. Today my cousins came over to celebrate Easter. It was great because the Easter Bunny had come by and hidden some chocolate eggs and he didn't skimp - there were probably 100 eggs and so my cousins helped find them all. I mean, I don't need all that chocolate myself (it is almost bathing-suit season).

THE LIFE O' RILEY

Hi everyone! Tonight we went to my Riley family's house for dinner. It was a lot of fun. Mommy and Daddy forgot to bring my travel highchair so I sat on Mommy's lap at dinner & squirmed around so much that Mommy got fed up and put me down so I could run around and explore (works every time). That was great until I slammed my fingers in the lid of a wooden potato bin. Ouch. That smarts. Here's a picture of me with my Uncle Paul. Hey, Unky Paul, aren't you getting married soon? I LOVE THIS "SPRING" THING!

Well, everyone kept telling me how much I would enjoy the warmer weather this year (last summer I was still a baby so I only have fuzzy memories of playing in the grass). So this is me saying, you're all right! I love nice weather! We get to go outside and run around and go to playgrounds! Today Mommy tried to corral me and Nathan into a picture with her (that she took herself, of course). This goes to show that 2 toddlers + 1 mommy + camera = a picture that's probably not going to become a treasured keepsake.

As you can imagine, all this playground time makes me pretty tired. Last night I even let mommy & daddy sleep through the night. Mommy keeps threatening to start sleep-training me in a couple of weeks so I figure if I throw her a bone here and there maybe we can avoid that unpleasantness.

I LOVE NEW STUFF!

Yesterday was a fantastic day - I got three new things! The first was a new tooth. For anyone who's keeping track, that makes number six. Three on the top, three on the bottom.

The second new thing I got was this magnetic farm that sticks on the fridge. It comes with a bunch of animals that are cut in two & when you get the front half and the back half of an animal into the farm at the same time it sings a song to tell you that you made a match. I love the music & even dance to it. I can't imagine EVER getting tired of this toy. A couple of times Mommy & Daddy accidentally turned the sound off when I wasn't around. Good thing I figured out very quickly how to turn it back on!

The third new thing was this cool Spiderman chair. It's just my size. I love sitting in it. It makes me feel like a big person.

After that I decided that was enough playing around & it was time to do some work. I built this tower using nothing but determination and the knowledge gained from watching a few episodes of Bob the Builder. Not bad, eh?

I thought I'd randomly include this picture in today's post of crazy Mommy & Daddy. Daddy has something called "spicy calabrese" hanging out of his mouth. I'm posting this picture to make the point that I DO NOT understand grown up humour. They were laughing like crazy taking this picture and yet when someone sneezes and I crack up no one else seems to think it's funny at all! Weird-o-rama.

Then yesterday evening Mommy went to a party without me. I was pretty angry (I mean, what's a party without little ol' me?) so I made Daddy miserable by deciding not to go to sleep & then crying for a loooooong time. I cried so much that Daddy called Mommy to come home from the party (which was my plan all along... sometimes it's just too easy, heh heh heh). But before she left she took this picture of a town crier. This just confirms I should have been at the party because apparently not too many of them have town criers.

Anyhoo, after the crying episode you'd think I'd have been too tired to wake Mommy & Daddy up in the middle of the night but... nuh-uh! I did it! I'm like a professional waker-upper. I'm kind of suffering today for all my antics. I'm a little tired. So I'm going to go to bed. I may not even wake up in the night. We'll see how it goes.

CHILLIN WID MY PEEPS IN DA CRIB

Hey everyone! Today I went to Nathan's and for a while we hung out in his crib... I realize there's some kind of double entendre there that has to do with gangsta lingo. Mommy explained it to me and I smiled & nodded but, to tell you the truth, I still don't really get it. All I know is that Nathan and I played... in his crib.... for real.

This evening my friend Tyeler came to visit me (she's actually my god-sister so we're kinda family). We had tons of fun. She played with me and all my toys and showed me how to put my puzzles together (it's harder than it sounds). We even ate ice cream & mandarin orange sundaes. Then she showed me Avril Lavigne's new video on YouTube. I'm soooooo hip.

It was Papa's birthday yesterday so Mommy, Daddy, Nana and I all met him for coffee in the afternoon. It was a good opportunity to take some pics for me to post but silly Mommy forgot to bring back-up camera batteries and the ones in the camera died almost as soon as we got there. Mommy did manage to get this picture of her cappuccino (because that's SOOOOO important... pictures of me with my Papa on his birthday are, I guess, not quite as important! Silly Mommy).

*sigh* and then it was Monday again and Mommy & Daddy have decided I should start earning my keep around here so I got myself a job. The dress is business casual but I thought I should impress management by wearing a tie on my first day.

JUST JOKING! I'm too small to have a job. I am signing up for Kindergym again, though, so that's KIND of like a job.

It's been a LOOOOOONG time!

Hey everyone! I'm sorry it's been so long since I last updated my blog. I caught a bit of a flu and haven't been feeling 100%. I'm feeling much better now so I'll catch you up on my entire week.

This picture isn't significant in any way except that you can see the light glinting through my hair... eh? eh? see that? Light doesn't glint through hair that doesn't exist so as you can see it's coming in REAL NICE! Before you know it I'll have enough for a proper comb-over.

Mommy and Daddy bought me a big box of diapers that they left in the livingroom. I discovered that diapers aren't only functional... they're fun. You can climb on them, sit on them, jump on them and as they start to diminish in number you can actually fit yourself INTO the box they come in and it's kind of like a little fort.

After the whole box trauma Daddy gave me a loaf of bread to make me feel better. You would think it would take more than that to erase such painful memories but... it totally worked. That loaf was a helluva good time.

The highlight of my week was that on Tuesday the weather was really warm (although it doesn't look that nice in the pic) and my girlfriend Natalie came and picked me up and we went for a walk & got to swing on the swings down by the water. I haven't been on a swing since the fall - it was really nice.
